AUSLAN INFO
The following ticketed workshops will be Auslan interpreted: “Pada Suatu Ketika (Once Upon A Time)” a stop motion collage animation by Deborah Kelly & Wayang Cyber will be subtitled in English. English Transcript of Auslan Promo Video Hey! Guess what? I’m here to tell you about Fambo. Fambo is a festival of contemporary art and culture. It provides a welcoming place for Queer families to come together and celebrate. The festival was created by Jenn and Sam, who have two children and identify as a Queer family. They created this cultural celebration for Queer families, in defiant response to last year’s marriage equality debate. Jenn and Sam wanted to provide space for encouragement and joy to families like their own, after the negativity of the postal survey. So, come along! Four events in the festival program will be Auslan interpreted.
  1. Banana Power
In the Banana Power workshop, a storyteller shares his Indian heritage with the audience as he prepares the sacred banana flower. As this delicacy is made he tells stories of his upbringing.
  1. Vogue Workshop
You know that famous dance Vogueing? Come and express your unique self yourself in the House of Vogue! It doesn’t matter what your experience is, this is your chance to shine and to meet other people through dance.
  1. I Can’t Let You Go, I Need You In My Life
In this workshop an artist will create an art installation and then invite the participants to come and remove pieces of it. You can then create jewelry to take home from this unusual scrap of art.
  1. We Wear Capes
In this workshop you can make a cute mini cape connected to your own identity, culture, and life experiences. As you are creating the cape you can find out about the life and experiences of others too. The cape you make is yours to keep. It’s an exciting program so come and check out the interpreted workshops! If you want an interpreter for some of the other events in the festival, please contact us on the email address that will appear on screen shortly (hello@fambo.com.au). If you have any other questions about accessibility, such as about wheelchair access in the building, please use the same details to make your enquiries. Fambo will be held at 107 Redfern St, Redfern (in Sydney). The venue is close to Redfern Station. It’s on Saturday, 29th September, from 10am-6pm. Tickets can be purchased on the Fambo website. The event could sell out quickly, so please book soon! Some of the workshops are free, some you need to purchase tickets for, but all information about prices and ticketing is on the website below: www.fambo.com.au I can’t wait to see you at Fambo Festival!
